Challenge/situation
JID has been appointed by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to manage the Bina Harbour Project Office to drive the development of the Bina Harbour Tuna Processing Plant in Solomon Islands. The Project Office will coordinate across government and development partners, run design and feasibility studies, and provide the organisation and planning to keep all stakeholders informed and involved.
Approach/solution
Project partnerships
The International Finance Corporation is the project’s transaction adviser, and is supporting engagement with potential investors and undertaking scoping and feasibility work. Solomon Water, supported by Australia’s Solomon Islands Infrastructure Programme, is undertaking technical exploration of water supply and wastewater management for the development.
Work/outputs
After developing a comprehensive business case outlining JID’s approach and solutions, JID is now working alongside the
Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources and the Bina-Talifu landowners, to develop a comprehensive implementation plan.
The Bina development is projected to provide at least 1,600 jobs in the Bina area and is considered a transformational project for the area.
