JID was appointed by NZ MFAT to work with Lae City Council (PNG) on a business case to redevelop Lae Main Market. We supported counterparts to plan for a quality infrastructure solution that addressed governance and social issues and provided a sustainable solution for the community.
This considered private investment options, commercial modelling, and options for sustainable upskilling of vendors and the local government authority.
JID recommended that the project only proceed with counterpart commitment to implement governance reforms, including the formation of a Lae Market Authority.
